Dear Clay
Dear Clay
‘Dear Clay’ by Stéphanie Baechler, Book launch & exhibition: 25 – 27.06.2020 at art book shop San Serriffe, Sint Annenstraat 30, Amsterdam.
‘Dear Clay,’ gathers a selection of spreads extracted from my meticulous sketchbooks displayed in chronological order (2013 – 2019), as well as 35mm photographs documenting my working process. Providing an intimate insight into my artistic practice, it reveals what facilitates the work from its conception to its making, transportation, and installation. Activating my archive of images allows to search for what creates the identity of a work behind the surface of the conventional gallery presentation.

Back of the book
Fragile.
Handle with care.
(But do handle.
Touch the surface,
feel its weight pressing into the skin of your hands,
listen to the little noises it makes when scratching it,
holding it.
Traces are there to follow,
to finger,
to form.)
